Annapurna
In November 2017 Laurent and I walked the Annapurna Base Camp trail - a return trail located in the centre of the Himalayas in Nepal. The hike took us 7 days (5 days up, 2 days down), but many people do it as little as 5 days and as much as 10. We are by no means seasoned hikers - as you can probably see from our massive packs, haha! But we did it and loved this hike so much. The trail follows the Modi Khola valley and gradually increases in altitude until the Base Camp at 4130 m / 13,500 ft (higher than NZ’s highest mountain, Mount Cook!)
The thing we really loved about this trail was the way that the mountains slowly reveal themselves to you - as a reward for making your way deeper into the valley you’re treated to new mountain views. By the time that you’re near the end of the valley you’re surrounded by giants - including Annapurna I, II and III, as well as the well-known Machhapuchhare (seen in the first picture), famous for it’s dramatic pointy peak. Here are some pictures from our hike - taken on a mixture of cameras. Enjoy!
